He/Him

Why are you nominating for the Board?

Joining the board of the Autism Self Advocacy Network would allow me to contribute my skills and experience to an organization that aligns with my values and goals. I am particularly passionate about advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with autism, and I believe that my background in management and customer service would be valuable in supporting the Network’s mission.

What involvement have you had in Autistic self advocacy?

I was officially diagnosed as Autistic in February 2022. I advocate for myself on a constant basis, and others by proxy. I hold a senior leadership position in a large healthcare organisation where I have used the platform I have to increase awareness and understanding that is filtering through the wider workforce.

What experience on and contributions to other boards and committees have you had?

I have been a member of several committees in both Residential Aged Care and community dementia advocacy groups. I have been involved in creating board reports, reporting on key indicators including financial performance, risk and quality, and performance against strategic goals.

What are your areas of expertise?

I am a Regional Operations Manager overseeing approx. 1200 staff and 850 residents across 9 residential care homes and have held leadership positions in residential aged care for more than 10 years. I would bring many skills to the position including but not limited to financial management experience, leadership skills and insight into healthcare organisations. I am a Registered Nurse and have retained my clinical skills and knowledge. I am also, and most importantly, Autistic with lived experience and the advantage of understanding life being both undiagnosed and post diagnosis.

Which of these areas do you have strong skills in that you would apply on the ASAN-AUNZ Board?

  • Financial management and/or accounting.
  • Governance expertise including experience on Boards and committees and/or leadership roles.
  • Government or stakeholder engagement.

What else would you like the members of ASAN-AUNZ to know about you? (optional)

I am a 47-year-old late diagnosed Autistic. Since diagnosis I have been searching for a way I can contribute my skills and ability to further the understanding of autism in the wider community and advocate for others.
